Victory for Macron
本文 Emmanuel Macron was elected France’s next president on Sunday, May 7, 2017. The 39-year old is France’s youngest leader ever and has never held elected office. Macron, a banker, beat out opposing candidate Marine Le Pen with about 66% of the vote. Macron is also the first candidate in France to run and win as a centrist and without a political party.

Thousands of supporters poured into the Louvre Museum’s courtyard when polls closed at 8 p.m. on Sunday. The crowd chanted “Macron Président!” and waved flags after Macron’s win was officially announced. In an address to the nation from his office, Macron acknowledged people’s “rage, anxiety and doubt” pulsing through the country. “The renewal of public life starts tomorrow,” he said.

今回は、「一文の構造分析と文章全体の構造分析」について取り上げます。

日本の学習は英語のみならずどの科目についても「一部を知って全体を知らない。従って、結果的に一部も知らない。」という特徴があります。例えば、「木を見て森を見ず」のことわざ通りに英単語の意味を暗記して、それを前提として英文を訳すというものです。

一言でその矛盾の一つを指摘すると、英文を構成している1つの単語の意味でも英文全体の中のたった1つの単語に過ぎず、従って英文全体による大きな影響をまともに受けているという事実があるのです。

ですから、英文中の単語の意味を英文全体の構成や流れを知らずして「特定」することはできないのです。
