| 本文 | The U.S. Congress returned to Washington, D.C., on Monday, after a weeklong recess. The nation’s lawmakers are set to tackle key issues for the country, including health care, taxes, and a new addition to the U.S. Supreme Court. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump will make his first speech to a joint session of Congress at 9 p.m. EST on February 28. While details about the speech are not yet known, the White House says it will be about the “renewal of the American spirit.” Protesters demonstrate during a health care rally at Thomas Paine Plaza on February 25, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. では、「どこがどのように間違っているのか？」ということですが、明らかに言えることの一つは、ほとんどの人が「それぞれの英単語にはその単語特有の不変な意味が内包されている」と捉えている、従ってその意味を暗記すれば英文を訳出できるものと考えているようです。
しかし、この考え方は根本的に間違っています。英単語にはその単語独自の意味を内包しているのは事実ですが、英文は単語の意味の単なる組み合わせではなくて、その組み合わせのための法則が前提としてあるのです。
その組み合わせの法則を知らなければ、最終的な単語の意味が生まれてこないのです。要するに単語の意味の前に一定の組み合わせ法則があるということです。
